Bad Segeberg

We arrived in Bad Segeberg at noon on Saturday. We had 3 hours to wait before we could check in to our hotel. So we went re exploring the Fußgängerzone and we stopped for lunch --it was really brunch, since we had skipped breakfast, so I could make a pig of myself, guilt-free. Ludwigs didn't make it on to our previous list but only just missed out. The plan of attack was a main course, followed by a dessert for myself. Both of which I enjoyed tremendously, sitting outside on a fairly summery autumnal day.

We spent the night in the Vitalia beside the big Segeberg lake ---as opposed to the smaller Segeberg lake. We were sent out to a separate part of the hotel, which was a mild inconvenience for me but a chance to build on my weekend's mileage with the cane. Fortunately, we got a room high up, on the ninth floor, overlooking the large Segeberg lake, with a balcony. We had reserved a table from 7pm in Mones so, after checking in, we had some time, before our showers, to enjoy some sekt on the balcony; a rare indulgence for me, ever since my neurologist insisted that alcohol does not go well with Neurorehabilitation. After our sekt, we got scrubbed up and waited for our taxi.

Before the taxi arrived we were serenaded by the fire alarm, which, of course, had new meaning for me. Claire phoned reception and the receptionist assured us that there was nothing to worry about. So with terror subdued, we just allowed the fire alarm to fade into insignificance, until an engineer managed to stop it altogether. So we went to Mones for the first time without the wheelchair. Unfortunately the proprietors were on holiday, but we were well looked after. It was as exceptional as we remembered. I went for dessert and we both finished with an amaretto.

We had some time to kill before we had planned to take the train back to Hamburg, so we killed it as follows. We had breakfast at the Vitalia. Then I triked, keeping pace with Claire's saunter, down to the lake promenade. We had some time before lunch to train walking with the cane. After that, we went to a lakeside cafe that we used to frequent, Goldmarie.

When we finally arrived back in Hamburg, we went for dinner in a Thai restaurant where we had eaten a couple of times before. Then, because of an ongoing problem with the elevators at the Hauptbahnhof, we had to make our way to Dammtor with the trike. It presented an opportunity for Claire to try one of those E-scooters which have become so ubiquitous around Hamburg over the last couple of years. I hope Claire won't mind me saying so, but I feel they are perfect for short city journeys, especially when you can avail of the Dreirad carrier basket to hold your crap.

All told, my second acciversary (which is actually today) has set the bar fairly high for next year. I got lots of opportunities to cane walk and Trike.
